Dogs are closely related to wolves and have been human companions for thousands of years. Initially, they were used for work and protection. Today, dogs perform many roles, including helping people with disabilities, sniffing out illegal drugs, searching for survivors after disasters, and even detecting illnesses like cancer. However, their most important role is as loyal companions.
Although dogs look very different from people, they share some of the same physical features. They have hearts to pump blood, lungs to breathe, and stomachs to digest food.
Dogs are wonderful companions with unique needs and characteristics that make them special friends to people.
